Luncheon - August 2007

President Sylvia Earnst opens the luncheon with a prayer at the Corpus Christi Country Club. The "NNL Membership Rush" poster is displayed in front of the podium. Everyone who brings a Prospective Member is given a "I am wonderful" ribbon and the Prospective Member is given a corsage. PLUS, each "couple" is listed on the poster and the top three people having the most Prospective Member join get a prize at the end of the term. Great idea for getting new members!

Wendy Freeman is back after having her baby girl. Congratulations again, Wendy. Sanddollar Editor Marsha Baxter has brought a guest, Vicki Gaarder. Vicki was an NNL member when she lived here 10 years ago and a Past President. We will really enjoy learning from her! Social Chair Gail Drown is on her right.

Seen at this table are Jean Marie Welch, Membership/Club Chair Sarah Miracle, Jane Cheesman, Margie Schroeder, Betty Hagemeister and Julie Schultz.

Here are Advisor Jo Ann Robertson, Scrapbook Chair Cherl Hinton, Coffee Committee member Josie O'Flynn, new member Linda Ivey, Nametags Chair Libby Killgore, Telephone Committee member Charlotte McElroy and Annette Garza.

Enjoying their lunch are Joan Keyes, Kitty Lovitt, Subscription Co-Chair Barbara Wendland, Gloria Waller, Dee Gregg and Joyce Seitz.

Margie Abner and Kae Martin make a pretty pink and black duo.

Publicity Chair Cat Longoria has the mike and, along with Membership Chair Sarah and President Sylvia, introduces our Prospective Members and the members who brought each. Marsha and Vicki and Cheryl Kelsey with Tammie.

Susie with Prospective Member, Captain Nettie Morgan

Susie is also the winner of the birthday drawing! Happy Birthday to all August birthday gals.

Social Chair Gail Drown and Co-Chair Cat Longoria are pointing out the flyers on each table about the upcoming "Moonlight Serenade" party, which is Saturday, September 15 in the Crystal Room at the Corpus Christi Town Club. The party will be 7 - 10 pm with great food, music and dancing plus a cash bar and many "goodies" and surprises. Cost is $30.00 per person. All members and their guests are invited. Look for an e-mail with more details!

Vice President Ava Obermeuller introduces our program, which is "The Salvation Army". Also, Ava is the recipient of the Fun and Friendship award for August.

Captain Mike Morgan gives an interesting and informative talk about the Salvation Army. Did you know that the Salvation Army is a church and Mike is the minister of the local chapter? Did you know that the heads of Salvation Armies are married and their wives are also members of the Salvation Army? A member, wearing red epaulets, is an officer, while those with blue ones are army members. Did you know that the average age of a homeless person in the United States is age 9?

Coffee Chair Jackie McDaniel reminds each of us that the Hearts and Hands and Circle of Caring Clubs are collecting school supplies and filling backpacks for needy children. They will be distributed by the Salvation Army.

Linda Dorsey is the Rose for August. She has brought her son Christopher and husband Bonner.

Bonner, Linda and Christopher

Linda has sitting at the table: Kae Martin, Advisor Tammie Mathis, Bobbie Sue Doye' (who flew in from Oklahoma to surprise Linda), Advisor Susie Wright, Bonner, Linda, Christopher, new member Kathy Peoples and Proofreader Kathy Jacobs (back to camera).

Tammie introduces our Rose, Linda.
Linda tells how much NNL means to her. She would not accept a corsage and she gave the following to each luncheon attendee.

As we all know, Linda had much rather give than receive and this is another way that she does that.

Marsha is heading up the Nominating Committee for the Board next term. Sign up sheets are on each table for members to sign for their job preference. There is also an explanation for each job function.

After selling the 50/50 tickets, Catalina is the winner of the 50/50 money. Congratulations!

The Advisors hand out the door prizes. Julie Schultz is one of the winners. This gift bag holds beautiful hand made cards designed and created by Treasurer/Reservation Chair Terrie Bodine.
