January 2006

horizontal rule

The new year starts with a luncheon at the Corpus Christi Country Club.  We are greeted with Libby Kilgore's Square Dancing Group, who provides lively and colorful entertainment.

Lisa Stringer from Radiology and Imaging of South Texas spoke to us on Bone Density Testing and how it relates to osteoporosis.  We found out the importance of early detection - especially in women - as early as 40 years of age.

Reservation Chair Candyce Gregston looks over her list to see if everyone is showing up.

Several of our Sponsors with Coldwell Banker Pacesetter Steel are sitting with Lettie Good, Pat Shoesmith, Alma Grady and Sarah Miracle.  By the way, the Cobb Salad was delicious.

Prospective Member Chair Sharon Lester is greeting our guests and prospective members.  To her right is ...

Sharon Blair, who joins today.  Welcome, Sharon!

We also welcome new member Virginia McDougall.  She brings her daughter Sarah, who is a student at LSU.  Advisor Candy Duncan visits with them.  (Candy is wearing a corsage, as are all of the 2005 Roses, because the Rose of the Year has been selected and will be announced at the luncheon.)

Another 2005 Rose is Susie Wright, who is talking with Membership Chair Jo Ann Robertson and Joyce Seitz.

Coffee Chair Sally Galyon is out of the kitchen and all dressed up in a pretty, bright top.  She chats with fellow Coffee Committee member Sylvia Whitworth, Advisor Cara Stonecipher and Secretary Rita Albrecht, who later won the 50/50 money of $41.00.

Left to right are Sally Freeborn, Marjorie Abner and Gloria Waller.

Juanita Powell and Ruth Miller study some of the flyers.

As one of Square Dancers leaves, our speaker, Lisa Stringer, arrives.  Left to right are Dee Gregg, 2005 Rose Pam Brower, Treva Miles, Lena Maude Muellar, Julie Schutz, Telephone Committee member Betty Hagemeister and Josie O'Flynn (back to camera).

A better view of Lena Maude and Julie ...

Good childhood friends and now good new NNL members are Barbara Wendland and Kathy Salch.

Advisor Mary Jo Cheesman brings Crystal Garner to visit.  The Key Lime pie is as good as it looks.

Amy Carmel is presented with the Fun and Friendship award for January.  She is on the Telephone Committee, Chairs the Book Club, and researched an easier and cheaper method to print and mail the Sanddollar.  We appreciate you, Amy!

Ways and Means Chair Scarlett Bowling won one of the two gift baskets that the speaker brought.  She deserves to win since she is in charge of the fund raiser this term.

President Jennifer Oler introduces Social Chair Sandra Richmond.  Sandra hands out flyers about the upcoming party.  It will have a Country Western theme, with barbeque and trimmings (drinks, entertainment and fun) on Saturday, March 4 at the  Bar-B-Q Man Patio Cantina.  Watch the Sanddollar for the details!

Subscription Co-Chair Linda Sassenrath sits with a guest, Terri Parker.

Candy Duncan is introduced as the 2005 Rose of the year.  The committee had a difficult task selecting the Rose from among the many deserving Roses.  With belonging to 9 NNL Clubs, being a past President, being an Advisor and always greeting someone new with a smile, Candy typifies NNL.  Vice President Carol Gigliotti and Sally Wakefield agree.
